Abraham Lincoln a History — Volume 01 eBook John Hay John George Nicolay
The baseline/benchmark for Abraham Lincoln's story. No one was closer to President Lincoln than his "assistants" and none more protective of his legacy. Excellent reading, and impeccable documentation of LIncoln's history.Product details

Abraham Lincoln a History — Volume 01 eBook John Hay John George Nicolay Reviews
The authors were Lincoln's Whitehouse secretaries throughout his administration and Hay went on to be secretary of state as an older man. Covers the times as well as the life of Lincoln.
Great book on the this part of our countries history and the events that happened leading up to Lincoln becoming the 16th U.S. president.
John Hay gives some insightful personal information about Abraham Lincoln. His ponderous overkill in giving peripheral data makes it a slow read, but only detracts marginally from the overall usefulness of the gook.
It's great
A must read. You will get an insight in to the opening of the civil war and a first person view of the MAN Lincoln was.
... missing all of the illustrations and most of the footnotes. This book (with the remaining volumes) is the first scholarly biography of Lincoln. To it's credit, it spends much time on the background history. Hay and Nicolay had access to a wealth of original documents and key participants. A more accurate rendering of the books would be appreciated.
I was interested in something history and I was going through the book choices and discovered this book, seemed a bit fitting since his Birthday was coming up in a couple of weeks, so I bought it. It's really good actually, I was surprised how detailed it is, and also I learned something new about him that I either wasn't taught in school or had just forgotten about it. Other than that, I recommend this book to anyone who likes American History.
